UAEU WIE Visits a High School
(Mar 9, 2009)On Monday, March 9th, 2009 four students from the IEEE\WIE student branch at the UAE University with their branch counselor, Dr. Hend Alqamzi, visited Mariam Bint Sultan High School at Alain city. The purpose of the visit was to encourage the young girls to specialize in engineering. Dr. Hend started her presentation by explaining the major fields of engineering and the engineering programs at the UAE University in general. Then, she elaborated on the field of electrical engineering and the job opportunities that are available for electrical engineers. The publicity officer, Moza AlMahrezi then, shared her experience as an Electrical Engineering student with the audience. Also, Mariam AlShamisi introduced the IEEE/WIE group and presented the benefits of being an IEEE member. Finally, the IEEE\WIE group asked few questions about the talk and gave gifts to the girls who answered them. The visit was organized by: Moza Khalfan Al-Mahrezi (Publicity officer), Baina Mohd AL-Ameri, Mariam Humaid Al-Shamisi, and Afra Rashed AL-Dhaheri.

About IEEE UAE Section
IEEE, UAE Section was established in 1987 to participate in the development of U.A.E. and fulfill the vision perceived by the nation's leaders. It has played an essential role in widening the scope of techno-electrical and computing awareness in the society. There are more than 1200 IEEE members in the section. IEEE UAE section has four society chapters; they are Power & Energy Society chapter, Computer Society chapter, Medicine and Biology Society Chapter, and Signal Processing/Communication joint chapter, in addition to two affinity groups, WIE (Women in Engineering) and GOLD (Graduate for the last decade).
