The future of Power Quality and Energy Measurement - Impact on Global Warming
(Apr 9, 2009)Alex McEachern, President, Power Standards, Lab, California delivered a lecture under the auspices of PES Chapter on Thursday, the 9th April 2009 at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)-Dubai, According to him, the biggest opportunity for energy reduction is found in machines, systems and load designs. Designers today continue to be challenged with the need for more energy efficient systems to manage growing power demand and safeguard environment. There are huge opportunities for energy reduction. Traditionally, power quality and energy monitors have been used for two main purposes: statistical surveys and solving intermittent problems. But Power Quality and Energy monitors available today cheap enough to integrate them in any piece of equipment, control power flow and energy consumption much more intelligently.

About IEEE UAE Section
IEEE, UAE Section was established in 1987 to participate in the development of U.A.E. and fulfill the vision perceived by the nation's leaders. It has played an essential role in widening the scope of techno-electrical and computing awareness in the society. There are more than 1200 IEEE members in the section. IEEE UAE section has four society chapters; they are Power & Energy Society chapter, Computer Society chapter, Medicine and Biology Society Chapter, and Signal Processing/Communication joint chapter, in addition to two affinity groups, WIE (Women in Engineering) and GOLD (Graduate for the last decade). Moreover, it has 13 student branches in different universities across the country. More information about the section can be found at http://www.ieee-uae.com.
