The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) held their annual Water & Energy Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) from the 9h to 11th of March, 2010 in the Dubai World Trade Center. IEEE’ and WIE had a separate booth at the exhibition giving students an opportunity to  expose and promote IEEE and WIE.  77 students volunteered for this event.

At Michigan State University, Dubai

An informational event was held at Michigan State University, Dubai to promote IEEE on Tuesday, 26th January. This event headed by Dr Boutheina Tlili, the IEEE Women In Engineering (WIE) chair of UAE section, cast light on the opportunities and privileges offered by IEEE. Dr Tlili shared her experience as a member and how IEEE can benefit the students now and later as professionals. Student scholarships, international competitions, building up of network, student compensation and discounts, valuable internship opportunities were some of the topics elaborated at this event. Most importantly, she discussed how it enhances professionalism and leadership skills giving students great job opportunities in the future. Many students were convinced that IEEE can help them in many ways in their academic and professional careers.  More than twenty six students participated in this event.  Pizza was served and some Raffle draws took place. Twenty six students and three faculty members attended the meeting.

workshop in Microcontrollers

Description: Dr. Qurban Ali Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering Department in UAE University was presented a workshop in Microcontrollers. This workshop was organized by eight members from the IEEE UAE Student Branch. The workshop started by small movie about the Dr. Qurban Ali. After that the Dr started the workshop. He told us about the Microcontrollers which was a special purpose computer on-a-chip. It is usually embedded with an electronic device such as cell phone. Then he explained for us how to made Microcontrollers chip in general. Finally he showed us some applications and projects that used Microcontrollers. There were around 50 female students attended this workshop. Tawam Hospital visit

On Wednesday 25- Feb – 2009, six members from the IEEE\WIE UAE university  Student Branch visited the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit in Tawam Hospital.

The team arrived at 11 a.m. and met Sumaya Al Raeesi who introduced the group to the children suffering from blood diseases and cancer. In the unit, there were 18 children, aged from few months to about 6 years old. The IEEE\WIE members talked to the children, played with some and drawn some sketches with others and distributed some gifts at the end of the visit. The team also talked to the parents of the children encouraging them to be patient and wishing their children to get well soon.

The visit was conducted by the I EEE members; Moza Khalfan  Al-Mahrezi (Publicity officer  ), Baina  Mohd  AL-Ameri, Mariam Humaid Al-Shamisi , Afra  Rashed AL-Dhaheri, Asma Musabeh Al-Seyabi , Reham AL-Masri. It was supervised by Dr. Hend Alqamzi the IEEE\WIE counselor of the student branch of the UAE University.
