Meeting IEEE and WIE UAE Chairs in University of Sharjah

But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” George Bernard Shaw. This is how University of Sharjah IEEE Student Branch members worked on when they thought of gathering all IEEE students all around the United Arab Emirates to meet with the IEEE Chairs to get ideas and to make friendships with each other. University Of Sharjah IEEE Student Branch The activity has taken place on Wednesday February 25th, 2009 in University of Sharjah. It has started by an introduction done by Eng. Soha Jawabreh – WIE secretary and editor in UAE – welcoming the audience who came from University of Sharjah, American University of Sharjah, Ajman University of Science and Technology, and Khalifa University in Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujairah emirates. About 75 students participated in the event from all these universities. Dr.Essa, Dr.Tlili, Maryam Althani (IEEE Chairs) with Studnets Speech by Dr. Essa Bastaki – IEEE UAE Chair – about past IEEE activities and also some of the upcoming activities for 2009 has started the event. He talked also about the most recent achievements done by UAE section. Dr.Essa AlBastaki shared his experience in IEEE and showed how important it is for students in their coming professional life. A speech by Dr. Butheina Tlili – WIE UAE Chair – about WIE activities done in UAE and also some of the upcoming activities for 2009 has followed. She talked about celebrating 125 years of IEEE in UAE, and some ideas to be done by all student branches in all universities. Dr. Boutheina Tlili introducing the concept of WIE affinity for students Mahmoud Nabaq – University of Sharjah IEEE Student Branch President – has shown a short video about past activities done by the branch which was an excellent presentation to show all their previous work. This video was followed by a short competition between all attendees; two of the members had prepared short questions about IEEE history and some other scientific areas. This part was full of fun as all students were answering and winning very valuable prizes. Winning prizes wasn’t finished by the competition; there was a Lucky Raffle Draw for the registered students, as all students have registered before participating in the event. Valuable prizes were offered for the draw by Panasonic, they offered a digital camera as well as memory sticks for the students. The ceremony was ended by honoring our guests Dr. Eesa and Dr. Boutheina by Dr. Amr Alnadi – UOS IEEE Student Branch Counselor –. All attendees were invited for a Pizza party after the ceremony which was a lot of fun and all students had a chat with the chairs and other students from all other universities. While having pizza, some interviews had taken place with some of our guests from other universities: Amina Fellan - Ajman University of Science and Technology Student – has stated that her professor of the course of Introduction of Engineering encourages the students to join IEEE as it has a lot of benefits for young engineers as well as it helps them to make friendships and to know more about Engineering fields. An interview has taken place with another student from the same university, Marwan Abu Zeid - Ajman University of Science and Technology Student – who is not an IEEE member yet but he would like to join the IEEE and be a student member as he is so excited to participate in all activities done by IEEE. Eng. Soha Jawabreh and Marwan Abu Zeid Aljud Nasser: Ajman University of Science and Technology Student has been interviewed as well. She is not an IEEE member too, and she will join IEEE and be an active member who volunteers in all activities and event, and she will encourage all her colleagues in the university. Tow active members from American University of Sharjah: Yassir Al Jundi and Rawan Shawar were interviewed. They enjoyed the event done in University of Sharjah with participation of all other students from all universities. One of their previous committee members has worked on the new design of the IEEE SB of American University of Sharjah website, and they update it regularly by posting all event done in their university.
