•On October 14, 2010, BITS, Pilani- Dubai proudly inaugurated the WIE (Women in Engineering) chapter under IEEE BPD Student Branch- an unprecedented event.The event was graced by the presence of the honorary delegates-- Dr Eesa Bastaki, CEO, ICT Fund & Chair, IEEE UAE Section; and Dr Boutheina Tlili, Chaiperson, Senior Member IEEE & WIE Chair, UAE Section. •They, along with Professor R K Mittal, Director BITS, Pilani- Dubai, were the Guests of Honour for the event.Suchita Gera was the host for the afternoon. •The ceremony commenced at 12 noon in the Graduation Hall with a presentation by Shuchita Gupta. It highlighted the achievements of BPD under IEEE from 2008 to 2010.The delegates were quite impressed by the active participation of BPD students for IEEE. •After this, Dr Bastaki and Dr Tlili were invited to address the gathering. Dr Bastaki expressed his pleasure at being able to be a part of the event. His encouraging words had everyone in the hall truly inspired. •Dr Tlili had prepared a presentation on the need and relevance of women in the field of engineering, and urged both men and women to join hands in supporting the cause. • •Prof. R K Mittal, then, handed over the petition from Dr.R.Swarnalatha, Faculty advisor to the IEEE UAE Section Authorities as a mark of inauguration of the WIE Student affinty group. • •This was followed by a vote of thanks by Dr G Vijaya. The delegates were presented with a token of gratitude for sparing time off their schedule and visiting the campus. Prof. R K Mittal and Dr Vijaya exchanged fond memories of the early years of BPD, and how far they had come. • As is said, all good things come to an end. Suchita Gera wound up the event by expressing the desire of BPD to take this alliance to great heights, and the faith BITS has in the success of IEEE. |
